    the drivers are GONE after a reboot,
    meaning the whole directory `wireless `under /lib/modules/--my-kernel-version--/kernel/net

    I did a reboot after that and it worked.
    Unity still doesn't want to load, but I will just use gnome instead.
    I'm still getting some visual artifacts using x11vnc, but it might be in vnc...
