I think we've maybe been talking past each other. :) I never wanted 3.9. I was concerned about any known issues adding the staging PPA (as opposed to just the Gnome3 PPA).

If the OP problem is the same as mine, somehow root owns /home/yourusername/.cache/thumbnails

So you just have to do this:


sudo chown -R yourusername:yourusername...
