ATI's not a fan of compiz...
Are you running a clean install of hardy?
You have to make sure that your kernel is up to date, or else the ATI drivers won't load properly.
If you have the cube turned on, make sure that you have 4 desktops (right click the workspace switcher on the panel->preferences->columns
then you should be able to ctl-alt and drag the cube around...
When I run any application in wine it does this..
