Re: A sad news - Debian project.

This is why so much more needs to be done with mental health. Sad news indeed.

Re: Visual Novel Game (*.sh) can not execute

Ren'Py should come with its own Python libraries. You may want to go talk about it on their forums too.

[ubuntu] Sudden dramatic rise in software crashing.

Using 14.10 with the latest updates I'm suddenly experiencing a lot more crashes with Inkscape and Gedit (and probably other software too, but I haven't used anything else since updating). Has anyone...
  4. [ubuntu] Alcatel One Touch Idol 2 Mini S not being recognised properly (not picking up card)

So, I have a brand-new Alcatel One Touch Idol 2 Mini S (mouthful of a name), and it has a 32GB MicroSD card with it.

I cannot get the phone to connect to Ubuntu (14.10; 3.16.0-31-generic).

  5. [ubuntu] Re: [14.10] 3.16.0-26 is failing to boot on here; probably graphics related - help?

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1397553/ - just a bump to note that this is the issue.
  6. [ubuntu] Re: [14.10] 3.16.0-26 is failing to boot on here; probably graphics related - help?

Bump, just to say that the new -28 update is also having the same issues. -25 and earlier still work though.
  7. [ubuntu] [14.10] 3.16.0-26 is failing to boot on here; probably graphics related

After installing the 3.16.0-26 update, the system will hard lock at some point during the boot cycle. The only way to get it to boot with this version is to use "nomodeset", which then does not set...
  8. [ubuntu] Re: Setting the Windows 10 boot loader to recognise Ubuntu - possible?

Windows 10 no longer supports booting from (or installing onto) MBR formatted hard drives, and the new GPT format is not (currently) supported by Ubuntu/GRUB. So running update-grub does precisely...
  9. [ubuntu] Setting the Windows 10 boot loader to recognise Ubuntu - possible?

So, I'm currently futzing about with the Win10 tech preview, and at the moment to boot into Linux I have to use the BIOS boot device selector - Ubuntu doesn't pick up the non-MBR-using hard drive...

    [ubuntu] Is BAMF broken?

I thought I'd throw my hat into the ring and risk upgrading to 14.10 beta (using GNOME here) via dist-upgrade. All seems well, except for this:

So it looks like something is wrong here. Any...
  11. [ubuntu] Timidity crackling at the start of MIDI playback.

Whenever I try to play back MIDI files using Timidity from the command line, for the first couple of seconds there is a crackling/static noise. Is there any way of preventing this?
  12. [ubuntu] Re: HD 6670 locking up while watching YouTube videos.

Bump, because it looks like nobody else has been having similar issues?

I've noticed this machine is locking up mostly when using Skype for calls and watching some videos from some sites (found...

[ubuntu] Keyboard layout keeps switching to US.

Running 14.04, with the GNOME Flashback session (Metacity).

Sometimes, despite all the settings indicating that it is set to UK, the keyboard layout seemingly at random will switch to the US...
  14. [ubuntu] HD 6670 locking up while watching YouTube videos.

Sometimes, while trying to watch YouTube videos, my machine hard locks. I suspect this to be a driver issue and/or general issue with Flash (especially as this only happens with Firefox).

    AMD...

    Re: Good Game Creator?

There's Godot, for one: http://www.godotengine.org/wp/ - does 2D and 3D. Rather rough and still needing work documentation-wise, but it's definitely promising.

    http://enigma-dev.org/ is a Game...
  16. [SOLVED] GNOME Flashback/Metacity - lost the window task list on the bottom panel.

As per the subject, I've managed to lose the window list on the bottom panel (using GNOME Flashback, Metacity). Has anyone any idea of how to fix this?

    EDIT: Solved as per...
  17. Re: FGLRX on a HD 6670 and Trusty... anyone else having problems?

With (for example) OpenMW, I've noticed no practical difference between the FGLRX drivers and the open source ones.
  18. Re: FGLRX on a HD 6670 and Trusty... anyone else having problems?

It works now, but it seems to make little to no difference to 3D performance.
  19. [ubuntu] Upgrading hanging during "generating grub configuration file"...

I noticed that upgrading to kernel 3.13.0-20 on here the process appears to halt at the grub configuration stage, more specifically at

EDIT: It appears that the process was hanging because the...
  20. FGLRX on a HD 6670 and Trusty... anyone else having problems?

When I upgraded to Trusty beta, X would refuse to start (it crashed with a hard lock-up). I had to remove the FGLRX drivers to get it to work. Anyone else experienced this issue?

Re: Elder scrolls online " LINUX petition "

Unlikely to be playing this myself, but I do think it'd be good to see this one on Linux. Rather unlikely though.
  22. [kubuntu] Re: Garbled sound with Skype and some other applications.

As a side note, the fix above messes up Audacity, unfortunately.
  23. [kubuntu] Re: Garbled sound with Skype and some other applications.

Indeed, quite aware that 13.10 isn't officially released yet. Latest version of Skype from their site.
  24. [kubuntu] Re: Garbled sound with Skype and some other applications.

No issues there. I fixed it by changing a line in /etc/pulse/default.pa.

    It now reads:
    load-module module-udev-detect use_ucm=0 tsched=0
  25. [kubuntu] Re: Garbled sound with Skype and some other applications.

Onboard sound stuff, AC 97 I think.
