  1. Poll: Re: What do you think of the new Ubuntu branding?

I like it, very polished clean and simple.

Sure it looks very similar to OS X, but that to me is no bad thing as I like OS X. Looking like Windows wouid just be horrid as it just looks so dated...
  2. Re: Howto: Change the hostname of a system SAFELY

You do need to consider updating certificates (stuff like webmin, ssh) too, otherwise you'll get security certificate mismatches (especially if you install IMAPS on your system for instance).

    Not...

Network Manager pops up a dialog when its inserted asks a few questions, and it just works. All...

Re: wifi dropouts aspire one A150

madwifi-hal seems to have mostly solved problems. Rest of problems I now suspect might be range/signal related.
  6. [ubuntu] Re: WiFi keeps disconnectig after upgreading to Jaunty

Downloaded and compiled/installed madwifi-hal-0.10.5.6 and wifi so far seems not to drop out or disconnect, speed is a little slow, but i do tend to get poor signal sometimes when upstairs compared...

Re: wifi dropouts aspire one A150

Tried the pointers on that post, none so far seem to resolve this.

Tried .31-rc1 kernel, as well as .30 and .29 kernels, and none of those fix the problems (.29 and .30 make it worse!).

    So now...
  8. [ubuntu] Re: WiFi keeps disconnectig after upgreading to Jaunty

Been having wifi disconnects along similar lines to posts here on my Aspire One (as posted here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=7562556 ).

Will give the Wicd suggestion a try.

    Seems...

Re: wifi dropouts aspire one A150

Going back to 2.6.28-11 didn't fix it.

Neither did blacklisting ath_pci or ath_hall.

Get 'Currupted MAC on input' also when transferring by SFTP, not sure if thats related.

    wifi dropouts aspire one A150

Having installed Netbook Remix, 9.04 on my Aspire One A150, my wifi seems under heavy load to drop out constantly.

Tried adding acer_wmi to blacklist, but had no effect (as recommended here:...

  14. [ubuntu] Re: Realtek 8169 - "No DHCPOFFERS received."

I've got the same issue. I found putting pci=noacpi at the end of the kernel line in the grub config file sorted it enough for me to get online.

Seems to be a bug in the 2.6.19-generic kernel with...

Re: Howto: Backup and restore your system!

Something went wrong with the creation or copying of the backup somewhere/how.

It is telling you it cannot read the file because it is shorter than it should be.

Did you get any errors whilst...

Re: Howto: Backup and restore your system!

The method listed in this HOW-TO works very well for backups, it is one I use regularly on my network at home :)

You need to do things slightly differently if you want to migrate to a new hard...
