if you are running ubuntu on usb and you provided enough space for installation you can install on it and it will run ok, do you have enough space on your USB..am not sure about the second...

why not do a sudo rm /etc/apt/sources.list.d/pidgin* i do believe you know what you are doing thus the sudo...

did you do an update recently, I would try seeing the theme properties and see if the right theme is selected..
check ur universal access option and see that the zoom in not enabled.
well it won't boot if you don't even have RAM. if you have ram then you can boot ubuntu live CD or usb.. usb is good opion if you want to save some work...
1.reinstall windows boot loader (MBR) if you don't know how to do that advise you to get one who does.
2.delete ubuntu partition.
3.expand windows partition (using windows disk management tools)
have you tried the alternative CDs. sometimes they work where live cds have failed..
just purge netbook launcher and maximus and use uubuntu desktop.. works like magic (not so sure with the unity thing though)
which live version have you used , i assume its the fedora core 15 alpha, i would advise hitting th fedora forums because ubuntu is using unity and thus not much would be said..
like gnome shell than unity, thats why i have intalled fedora 15 alpha, once ubuntu works fine with gnome shell will install it back..
on fedora 15 alpha both buttons are available.

check cd for error, or cheksum your iso. i would just download and burn another CD... or try another installation method ie USB if u were trying CD or the reverse

i think you untar first and import it to the new evolution. i thnk the netbook version also use evolution. right??
did you test your disk for errors?? i would try another disk or distro all together and see how things work out..
