I agree. It's almost a full-time job to get caught up on a large board after missing a couple of days. Those boards are a wealth of information but to follow on a daily basis is too time consuming...
I feel stupid asking this but how do I open "theme manager"? Is this the one at Computer->Desktop Preferences->Theme?
I first heard of Ubuntu at the Archlinux forums. Someone had mentioned that they were leaving and Ubuntu was mentioned there. I checked it out and have been using it since.
I have Ubuntu installed on a Dell GX270 (it's a work machine) and it autodetected the my CDRW, a SAMSUNG CDRW/DVD SN-324F. I popped in a blank cdr and was able to burn cds using the Nautilus CD/DVD...
I had a similiar situation though my involved a wireless card. My laptop has an option to disable the wireless card using the Fn-f2 key. I spent about 30 minutes troubleshooting my wireless...
Another reason is that it's getting a lot of good press early. Favorable reviews bring hype and popularity.
