With compiz 0.92 or later it almost works that way if you turn down the transparency of the dockbarx popup and enable previews for minimized windows from compiz settings.

Sorry, I didn't see your answer before now (note to self, always subscribe to threads where you give DockbarX support).
You can change the color and transparency of DockbarX popup from DockbarX...
In compiz 0.9.2 and newer there's an option to show previews for minimized windows. Sadly there's also a bug in newer versions of compiz that makes previews show up behind popup instead of above it....
