  1. Re: Valve Corporation's Steam is coming to Linux in 2012

Like I said, don't forget about Steam Greenlight.

  2. Re: Valve Corporation's Steam is coming to Linux in 2012

Don't forget about Steam Greenlight. Greenlight and Steam on Linux seem to be ideas that go hand in hand.

Re: Steam Client for Ubuntu (GTK)

The one who starts it is the one who requests it. If there are no requests there likely will be none.

Now if I had the technical know how... I would actually create it myself :P

    Steam Client for Ubuntu (GTK)

    http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1057523

Is there any chance of anyone ever creating a GTK version of this application?

I've used it before but it's just way too ugly at the moment.

[SOLVED] Re: Banshee not playing music

Just thought I'd post this with a useful bump when I ran into this problem. It's very possible that if your music is stored on some other drive that it may not be mounted. In this case, Banshee won't...
  6. [ubuntu] Re: How good is ubuntu if you can't even install it.

Okay this is solved. What I did was set the nouveau.modeset=0 in the parameters by hitting 'e' on the grub boot menu and adding it. I then hit f10 and was able to boot in to Ubuntu and installed the...
  7. [ubuntu] Re: How good is ubuntu if you can't even install it.

Yes the LiveCD works fine. I just can't seem to get into an install of Ubuntu 11.10 after I install it.
  8. [ubuntu] Re: How good is ubuntu if you can't even install it.

So where should I go from here?
  9. [ubuntu] Re: How good is ubuntu if you can't even install it.

Will do this now and then edit this post with the results.

So it looks like it's between the audio controller and the GTX 580. I'm on the LiveCD right now.
  10. [ubuntu] Re: How good is ubuntu if you can't even install it.

I already did the CD integrity check and just now verified that the md5sum turned out correctly.
  11. [ubuntu] Re: How good is ubuntu if you can't even install it.

Yeah I know but this isn't the first issue I've had and so either my luck is just horrible or.. yeah you get the idea. Like I said I'm just annoyed.

Here is the error I get immediately when...
  12. [ubuntu] Re: How good is ubuntu if you can't even install it.

    Sorry I'm just annoyed.

I didn't have this problem with 11.04. I'm trying to install 11.10 x64 version. I've tried both the CD install and USB install (Not sure if that would matter)

    GTX 580...
  13. [ubuntu] How good is ubuntu if you can't even install it.

Linux/Ubuntu is never going to be accepted on a global level if every single version brings new install headaches that your average user can't get around.

First install, I get freezes after...
  14. [ubuntu] Re: Command line app to do a google reverse image lookup?

I wanted to be able to do reverse image searches on pictures I find in nautilus by right clicking on them. A command line program would just come in to play because it is what I would use to setup...
  15. [ubuntu] Re: Command line app to do a google reverse image lookup?

I want to be able to right click an image in Nautilus and go to a nautilus context menu action I have created to perform the google reverse image search.
  16. [ubuntu] Re: Command line app to do a google reverse image lookup?

Basically I just needed a command line solution so I could use nautilus-actions to setup a context menu item that passes the filename to it and run a search in the default browser.
  17. [ubuntu] Command line app to do a google reverse image lookup?

Some kind of app that would accept an input image and then run a search in the default web browser? Is anyone aware of something like this? I wanted to incorporate it in to the Nautilus context menu....
  18. [ubuntu] No custom toolbar icons appearing in Nautilus

I've added some custom actions with icons both manually and through nautilus actions yet even after restarting nautilus they do not appear in the toolbar. I can get the context entries to show up...
  19. [ubuntu] Re: Only can get a command prompt after installing Nvidia 177.80 drivers

I've already reinstalled Windows. I guess I'll give Ubuntu another go here in a few months.
  20. [ubuntu] Re: Only can get a command prompt after installing Nvidia 177.80 drivers

8800 GT here and neither 177 or 173 work.
  21. [ubuntu] Re: Only can get a command prompt after installing Nvidia 177.80 drivers

This is pathetic. I whiped my Windows install because I got sick of it and then I come over to Ubuntu which in the past has seemed to work well enough and upon a completely fresh install I cannot...
  22. [ubuntu] Re: Only can get a command prompt after installing Nvidia 177.80 drivers

Has this issue gotten a bug report yet?

I did a completely fresh, completely new (As in, 8.10 released, no beta, no alpha) install.

Installing the restricted drivers and rebooting causes the...
  23. [ubuntu] Re: Nvidia restricted driver wont install Ubuntu 8.10

Try this for removing them and getting back to where you were:

After logging in at the terminal do:

    sudo nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Find the section which lists the Nvidia device and change the...
  24. [ubuntu] Re: Only can get a command prompt after installing Nvidia 177.80 drivers

Ah so 32bit doesn't work either? I guess I'll scrap trying that out then.
I'm just coming back to Ubuntu after a long long hiatus. If this isn't resolved by tomorrow night I'll be right back to...
  25. [ubuntu] Re: Only can get a command prompt after installing Nvidia 177.80 drivers

Me too and so is SpinalCracker. I am about to install 32 bit and I will let you know how it turns out.
