Re: New disk mdadm viewed as a spare

What worries me is that you seem to have some strange situation. According to your last post you did both --fail and --remove which are the correct commands. But the slot #1 is still marked as taken....

Re: New disk mdadm viewed as a spare

You might hav removed the HDD itself, but in md2 you still have the slot #1 with the 'removed' device in it. Otherwise that line wouldn't be there.

I don't know if this is a bug, or is it because...

Re: New disk mdadm viewed as a spare

Did you first remove the old failed member from md2?

    Post the output of:

    sudo mdadm -D /dev/md2

[SOLVED] Re: [LVM] It is not possible to increase VG

After you tried the fix in parted, is that output how currently the disk is? I mean it says sda3 is 12GB but you made the disk to be 30GB I understand. So you would want now to resize the partition,...
  5. Re: Two LVM with two 12TB and one 8TB so two 16TB how?

    My personal opinion.

LVM for me is just what it says: Logical Volume Management.
The benefit is to have an easy way to extend/shrink volumes (mostly extend).

It is not RAID nor backup, so I...
  6. Re: How to acces a VPS from an virtual domain

1). Did you copy the .conf file in the sites-available folder?

2). Did you enable the new site?

    sudo a2ensite lsapp.dev
And restart apache service after that.

[SOLVED] Re: Cannot restore 4 drive RAID5

OK, it needs modifications it seems.

    sudo mdadm --create /dev/md0 --verbose --assume-clean --level=raid5 --raid-devices=4 /dev/sd[bcde]1

[SOLVED] Re: Cannot restore 4 drive RAID5

Like I thoughts... If you are sure your data was good (or relatively good) until the power went out, you could try creating new array but keeping the data intact. There might be some small part of...

[SOLVED] Re: Cannot restore 4 drive RAID5

It doesn't look very good. The update time of sdc1 says Oct 2017. Not sure if the superblock is just confused, or nothing was really written to the disk for 3 years. I guess it is difficult that you...

[SOLVED] Re: Cannot restore 4 drive RAID5

Please post the full output of the examine command. Paste it here in CODE tags.

    sudo mdadm -E /dev/sd[bcde]1

Be careful if taking any other steps because you might make the array unusable if...
  11. [SOLVED] Re: Ubuntu 20.1 new install as a vmware machine cant access from LAN

First of all, is this VM only for some short specific test?

Because if you want to keep it for longer, use only LTS releases and the latest LTS is 20.04 LTS. If you are new to linux servers and...
  12. Re: Cannot create RAID 1 on fresh install of ubuntu server 20.04

To save time I would suggest to use the legacy server ISO instead of the now standard live server ISO.

Further more I would boot the server with the ubuntu desktop ISO in live mode first, prepare...

[server] Re: setting up acl with samba

    You also have other options.

Since years ago samba was the natural option when windows computers needed to access a linux server. But with Win10 if I am not mistaken, there is NFS-Client feature...
  14. [server] Re: Unable to boot from HDD 20.04 installed with BIOS in Legacy mode

Out of interest, did you manage to achieve this with the legacy image?
  15. [server] Re: Unable to boot from HDD 20.04 installed with BIOS in Legacy mode

Have you tried the legacy ISO?

Personally, as long as the "old type" ISO exists I try to stay away from the -live-server- image. I still haven't reinstalled my server so I have no test done on...
  16. Re: Ubuntu server 20.04 NFS-kernel-server not starting

Is there any specific reason why the mount is so slow? Maybe you can improve that part?

In my case I have a .sh script that does a manual mount I need and after a sleep of 15sec it restarts the...
  17. Re: adding raid 1 to existing server. ( what next)

No, mkfs will not fix that. You are mixing up things. In mdadm raid the filesystem you will create goes on top of the raid array device, it is not in the partitions like when you use simple HDD...
  18. Re: adding raid 1 to existing server. ( what next)

fat12 sounds like filesystem to me, and the partitions for mdadm should NOT have a filesystem on them. I might be wrong what it means though, I stopped using fdisk some years ago.

    Part of the...
  19. Re: adding raid 1 to existing server. ( what next)

You need to repartition any disk that was used before. You want it to be with new clean partition table, like new. So that means you need to repartition both sdb and sdc.

    You might have sdb1 as...
  20. Re: Ubuntu OpenVPN Gateway - Routing Mutiple Subnets

IMHO you have some other issue in this situation. VPN gateway on each VLAN should not be necessary because one vNIC in each VLAN does the same job. So you can have one single VPN gateway VM with vNIC...
  21. Re: Locked-Down SFTP access to mounted WinServer sub-folder

Instead of trying to set permissions with mount options, have you tried setting up permissions on the specified folder directly with chmod?

In this case I don't know whether they would stay...
  22. Re: Ubuntu OpenVPN Gateway - Routing Mutiple Subnets

Sounds like you might have errors in your complex situation with VLANs. Or I am missing something of this setup.
Lets say you have a machine 10.20.1.20/24. Does ping to 10.20.1.254 work at all?
    You...
  23. Re: Ubuntu OpenVPN Gateway - Routing Mutiple Subnets

    You have no masquerade rule.

Try this and it should make it work for subnet 10.10.x.x:

    sudo iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o tun0 -j MASQUERADE
    sudo iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o ens160...
  24. Re: Ubuntu OpenVPN Gateway - Routing Mutiple Subnets

The ip_forward needs to be allowed in /etc/sysctl.conf. Permanently!!

I'm not familiar what that sudo command does, maybe it does the same, but I have always did it by editing /etc/sysctl.conf to...
  25. Re: Ubuntu OpenVPN Gateway - Routing Mutiple Subnets

You had internet access because there were going out over the ISP router. Now it doesn't work because something is blocking that connection. Most probably the iptables rules.

    I would start with...
