I wasnt precise either. I am struggling with icon size using unity 3d; not 2d. And so far I wouldnt find any qml files in the unity directory ...

I guess you mean 12.04.

But I fully agree to your posting - Google points out that there should be a slider on the "appearance settings" panel to control the launcher icon size.

I just ran into the same issue and thought about checking/creating a bug entry at launchpad for this. I gave up after 30 minutes.

Maybe i am stupid, but I cant think of any good reason to remove...

Update: I ran with 'place windows' disabled for a while ... and saw the same effect. I also figured that the task switcher will not show up any more in such situations.

I am running 11.04 on my W510 using the nvidia graphis driver for a few days by now. Saw this three times:

- just while doing something ... screen turns completely black
- no mouse cursor, no...

I added some additional indicators, like caffeine, sysload, ...
In addition, I changed the notification area to display "all" ...

this is not a generic (x)ubuntu problem ... but:

our company enforces a toolset for security stuff on our machines.
This toolset prevents auto-login. Simple as that.
