I took the front off the laptop and checked the connection going into the webcam and it seemed OK.
rebooted and ran lsusb and modprobe again and got the same results...

Just a quick add on... When I plug the tablet into my computer it doesn't show up as a device, GIMP sees the pen but there is no icon in unity for it. So I don't have access to the device properties....
