ill give it a try. thanks so much!!!!!! everyone for helping!!!!! Yipppie!!!!!
after all that though, something caused the terminal to stop working (big blank white screen). at least I can go to control/alt/f1 and do stuff if need to though.
ok after adding the Horizsync line, things seem to work now. I'm double checking YEAH!!!!! finally, oh my goodness. Terrible for someone to have to go through this. Oh well, I'm not touching anything...
ok HorizSync is in my xorg now.
I typed in the lsmod code and it shows nvidia from what I can see.
Here is the xorg.0.log file

no sorry I have not added the Horizsync line yet. I was running all my commands by going to the Terminal and now for some reason I go into the terminal and it's a big white screen with no prompt. now...
xorg.conf now has nvidia. when I went to the windows terminal when it was set to nv, it worked fine meaning I could see the command prompt and type in stuff.
nvidia was not removed over the past...
I was going to do this, but for some reason when I go to Terminal, it just brings up this big white screen with no prompt for me to type anything. This has never happened and I've been using terminal...
I changed it and can now go into the settings, but the highest I can choose is still 640x480.
Am I suppose to rerun any commands after editing that file?
here it is:

Update at this time. wont let me go above 800X600. xorg looks like this (see xorg below).
xrandr results:
xrandr

here is an update. Modified that file so it looks like this now. See below under xorg.config. Rebooted. No change. 800X600 is the highest it will go.
HERE IS ME RUNNING THESE COMMANDS AGAIN AFTER...
thanks so much for sticking with me. I'm just getting to these updates. I still can't believe what one has to go through though.
I will work on this again tomorrow so I'll let you know the...

I could try it. Is that best done using VI and use the commands to insert a line? haven't done that in a very very long time, played with Linux Redhat a longggg time ago. Is VI the best route to go...
If I could get thru what ever is happening here with this error, maybe I could get further with this, don't know. Must be some way to be able to change my resolution. This is pretty silly.
got it to run from terminal. doesn't work. only allows allows 2 resolution sizes, 640x480 is the largest which brings me back to the entire original problem.
I did install it, but where do I find how to run this lxrandr. Is it on the menu's anywhere? I don't seem to see it.
I could give it a try, but where do I get it? What does repos mean? Is there a site where I can get it from?
unfortunately I run that and get this:
xrandr --output default --mode 1024x768_60.00
xrandr: Configure crtc 0 failed
output is:
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 240, current 640 x 480, maximum 1024 x 768
default connected 640x480+0+0 0mm x 0mm
640x480 50.0*
320x240 51.0
1024x768_60.00 59.9 ...
sorry, cant get to it right now, but it think its the same as this one....although where I found this, the person never got any help to why it was happening.
Hello, I have the same 800x600...
I get this same error, and I know it's being typed in correctly the xrandr --newmode line. : (. Any other ideas.
