This is why KDevelop4 ported to Windows is going to rock so much :P
And its our fault that the Indian support workers for Netgear/Belkin/Dell/etc are un-educated and cannot help you solve a problem if you use Linux? Or that some hardware companies are ignorant and...
Many developers create software for thier own use, and then release it for others to use "as is", you should be thankfull they are releasing software for free in the first place
KDE4 is not only about the common end user, its about a large re-work of the API for us developers who use it
Thats exactly my gripe, in the 6th months of Feisty (since it had a feature freeze) plenty of projects have released significant updates.
They can always have both 1.3 and 1.4, just like they can have kde3 and kde4 .. and let us, the user decide
We better see it backported :P
An interface that looks good, like KOffice :P
OOo should move away from Java to C++ and Qt
But its not ... Feisty is not rolling, its stable ... It does not get new packages in official repos.
Dapper is just pointless, LTS is not ment to be "stable", its ment to be something that is...
Yes, but thats my gripe, I want to sometimes be able to have both rolling and non rolling on the same system, meaning that a 3 branch approach where one branch is always rolling, one is a bit behind...
I'd prefer an Arch style rolling release - even if it was not as frequently updated (Arch tends to give you stuff that is unstable).
My ideal "situation" would be to have stable - testing -...
Except that if you learn C first you will always tend to develop bad C++, its much better to learn it the other way round.
that Ubuntu should adopt a rolling release like Arch Linux as opposed to the normal system?
Yes, but the fact is - if you allow them to do enough things, like IM, without having to bypass stuff - they are more likely to do the work... I'm just using my self as an example (I'm only 20 now -...
Yer, but everyone likes a different colour, and I personally dont care what colour is default.
Who cares about the degault look?
First thing I do (other than not installing any of the ubuntu themes because I use the netinstall) is install XGL/CF/Emerald and use a nice custom theme
Are you trying to force the kids to hack around all the useless limitations?
Face, while you think they should not use MSN - they disagree - the system should be fully "open", in the sense they...
KDE4 ftw
I find that Ubuntu installed from the net install mini.iso and then with only the packages I want (KDE, etc) installed via apt-get is alot faster feeling than a default livecd install.
MonoDevelop for C#
KDevelop for everything else (even though I run Gnome - I prefer it over Anjuta)
I fail to see how the GUI is a pro? Is is that difficult to open console and type wine Setup.exe?
OpenGL works fine in Vista, I had no problem's running CS1.6 and other games in OpenGL mode (which always gives me better results than D3D) when I tried Vista.
And MS can't "disable" OpenGL by...
Depends -
Do we want fancy GUI's for say GIMP? - YES!
Do we need a GUI to burn DVDs? - Well, maybe but I prefer command line
Do we need a GUI for config stuff? - Hell no, I prefer to edit a...
Switched to Linux only for servers about 7 years ago.
Switched laptop to Linux only about 6 months back
Reason you dont see much Java is because Java sucks compared to C/C++ (and yes even C# which is based on Java).
