    My guess is that it's simply defaulting to the on board.
    Check if you can toggle gpus in the BIOS.
    The Nvidia card would probably be listed as pci-e, which is what most dedicated cards likely show...

    will tell you if running 32-bit or 64-bit.

    32-bit will show as i686
    64-bit will show as x86_64

    sudo apt install ubuntu-mate-desktop
    This will give the mate desktop as an option to log into from the login screen....
