I'm running Karmic 64bit but i got webex working with IE 6 via crossover
(edit: this works for entering meetings and seeing others' shared screens but it crashes IE6 when trying to share desktop)

you're step 6 should've been
sudo ./vpn_install
instead of sudo sh ./vpn_install

don't use wubi if you want to get rid of windows. i had something like an ubuntu install party a while back with all my brothers (they brought over their laptops) and i found myself lacking slow...
i would try reloading the software sources and make sure you have multiverse, universe, main & restricted enabled

you'll want to reset your xorg.conf
boot into a command prompt and run this command:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
that should reset your xorg.conf file, then reboot.
