If your computer has built-in bluetooth and a key or switch for turning it off and on, try turning it on before running blueman. Worked for me!

By the way the particular directory that works for me is
/usr/lib/xulrunner/chrome
and so the flashblock.manifest reads
content flashblock...
I should add that I'm on Ibex; I don't know if Hardy is compatible with the synaptics HEAD I worked off of.
