  1. [ubuntu] Re: Where to install programs in a good way?

Just like ml9104, I am inclined to say that 20G should be enough for most users; in my 16 years of using Ubuntu or other DE versions (eg Xubuntu, Kubuntu) I have never had a root partition of more...

[SOLVED] Re: How disable updates in Kubuntu 20 ?

Do you mean all updates or do you wish to hold the version of just individual packages?

It is very unwise or potentially dangerous to stop all updates so give us more background.

[ubuntu] Re: boot sequence mac/ ubuntu

Thread moved to Apple Hardware Users. which is more appropriate and a better fit as most users know very little about Apple hardware.

[xubuntu] Re: Time & Date screenshot was taken

Yes, that is the naming convention of Xubuntu as well so unless you changed the saved screenshot name, that should be what it's called.
  9. Re: Mint Kernel 5.4.0.84 & 85 open DVD drive on cold boot.

Thread moved to MINT. which is more appropriate and a better fit as that is the OS you appear to be using, not Ubuntu.
  10. [ubuntu] Re: Target filesystem doesn't have requested /sbin/init, /bin/sh:0:Can't open text

Trying to upgrade the distro version from either of the 15.# releases is pointless and probably doomed to failure! The do release upgrade path has closed for the 15.# versions so will simply fail.

Re: Firefox Snap as Default in 21.10

I do not use snaps at all in my system (Xubuntu 20.04) and have even removed snapd as well as all the infrastructure required to install and use them.

This has caused absolutely no difficulties or...

    [SOLVED] Re: 21.10 Upgrade questions

I would presume that if you upgrade from a previous version of Ubuntu that has the .deb version of firefox as default, you will still have the .deb version in the upgraded 21.10 OS.

    Surely the...

Re: Firefox Snap as Default in 21.10

An alternative way to continue with Firefox could be to use the .tar.gz direct from Mozilla, unpack it into a folder in /opt and use the executable file in that as I currently do in debian; it works...

Re: Unable writing by DVD writer

Have you checked the mint.iso file you used against the published hashes to make sure it's a good download, or did you download it using a torrent client which checks it as its arrives?

    I also...
  17. Re: how disable folder being mounted how partition ?

You may not have installed any flatpack or snap packages but I think all the Ubuntu family of OSs have snapd installed by default even if no snaps are installed; my Xubuntu 20.04 certainly did,...
  18. [SOLVED] Re: Blacked out boxes in Audacity window under Gnome after upgrade 18.04 to 20.04

    Ah!

That %F is simply the suffix added to commands in .desktop launcher files; if you use the command in terminal you can cut the %F from the command used and it should work fine.

  22. Re: Upgraded to 20.04 with major problems!!!

    Upgraded from what to 20.04?

  23. [SOLVED] Re: Blacked out boxes in Audacity window under Gnome after upgrade 18.04 to 20.04

OK, this does seem to be a wxGTK problem and I did used to have to start Audacity in 18.04 using the command
bash -c "GTK_IM_MODULE=; audacity %F" in the desktop launcher file.

    It may be that...
  24. Re: Which flavour and settings for an elderly person

  25. [SOLVED] Re: Blacked out boxes in Audacity window under Gnome after upgrade 18.04 to 20.04

I think this may be a known bug with problems related to GTK3 and Audacity's use of wxGTK which is something I saw in the past with the same problem you now have.

    I can't remember how I solved...
