    do you have timeshift? could then restore system to a state prior to installing proton.

    Remove packages that didnít install completely.

    sudo apt-get autoclean


    Remove your apt-cache.

    sudo apt-get clean

    i dont get it , the "menu and title bar",like you explain, shows by default
    title bar shows at top off all applications and the menu bar is just a right click away. just like windows.

    i don't use thunderbird so can't help there ,don't know how it search work but i can imagine the mainstream linux email client would have that sorted.
