FYI, you can make a Linux live USB key work properly by going into the /syslinux/syslinux.cfg file and removing the word "UI" from the last line. The current daily build seems very stable thus far.

I need the 64 bit version, I have some code that I can only test on Windows Server 2008, which is 64-bit only, and AMD-V support is disabled on this laptop, which means I need 64 bit Linux. I...
OK, after some digging around, you can make the live CD for Alpha 3 work. It will fail to start, at the boot prompt, type "live" (without quotes), and it will boot into live mode. It works pretty...
LOL, complete and utter failure. Won't even get to the boot screen, gives a message like
"invalid keyword in config file"
. It's been that way for about a week or so, don't know why they...
Actually, if you can find a daily build circa June 30th, there pretty much isn't any breakage at all. I reinstalled the June 30th daily build after trying one from around July 15th, they broke quite...
Just as an FYI, the recent daily builds have tons of problems (the aforementioned breakage I warned of earlier). Sporadic boot failures and occasional failures to load the Radeon driver.
To the...
Actually, there is a 3rd condition that could be real bad....
3. The CPU fan isn't coming on at all (not sure if that's still possible)... Even on low speed, it should provide "enough" cooling,...
@seth: It should be OK, the recent Maverick builds have cooled things off quite a bit, I think the thermal issues are 90% sorted now. Besides, I wouldn't worry about thermals too much, unless one...
Highly unlikely... Chances are, every 10.04.x build will still have the .32 series kernel, with a few backported features here and there... Anything specific to a newer kernel is pretty much not...
I never installed the 1.1.0 BIOS, but according to Colin, the 1.1.0 BIOS broke some of the features on the laptop (probably on purpose, apparently Toshiba and/or Insyde Software hate Linux). ...
Even better news, guys... Today's daily build even has the wireless fixed, as well as an even newer kernel.
Also, in response to a PM that was sent to me, even though Toshiba removed the...
Hey guys, FWIW, I believe they've fixed the IGP thermal issues in the latest Maverick daily builds, with the 35-6 kernel, most of the time, the laptop is running at near ambient temperature. I'm...
Hey everyone, please read this...
Apparently, the new kernel and open-source drivers cause 780/880 IGPs to run quite hot, partly due to an incomplete ACPI implementation, and partly because the...
A word of warning to everyone:
They've not started making the big changes in 10.10 yet, I expect it to become very broken in the next few months. If you want to keep a stable system, I would...
TBH, I believe that the Netgear router could be the culprit(even if something works in Windows, but not Linux). I have a Netgear router, plenty of times I've blamed a networking issue on Linux,...
Not true, it will in fact run on .35. The current kernel listed in grub is 2.6.35-2, based on 35-RC1.
Actually, I found that previous versions of Ubuntu can't make a proper Maverick USB boot disk, I had to install 32 bit from a CD, then make the 64 bit USB startup disk from the 32 bit Maverick...
...and now, I'm posting this from the 64 bit Maverick daily build live CD. Everything works, touchpad, wireless, and battery meter.
Excellent work, everybody...
:guitar:
No boot options and no special kernel, just popped the CD in, and it worked right off. I'm making a 64 bit USB startup disk right now, I'll let you know how that works...
Actually, right now, I'm posting this from the latest Maverick 32bit daily build. It boots up perfectly, and the wireless, touchpad and battery meter all work.
Hello All,
Good to see that so much progress has been made... Can anybody confirm if the Maverick Meerkat daily builds are:
1. Stable, and
2. Have the appropriate kernel in them yet
If...
To those having Lucid networking problems:
Lucid borks the network on all of my computers, even my desktop I built myself, that had otherwise been working fine. Lucid made some major changes to...
Actually, I should've been more specific; I've never gotten the .33 kernel to work, so, I should've said: a later .32 kernel.
Also, I forgot to say that I can get 64 bit Karmic running using the...
Cheers for the suggestions. I've had a love/hate relationship with Dell in the past, but TBH, they are one of the few OEMs who openly say "We like Ubuntu".
I'd recommend going for one of the later kernels we compiled, atleast 32.9 or later. The current 10.04 kernel is based off of 32.9 (AFAIK), therefore, you wouldn't want to risk breaking something...
