  1. Re: The player project (player / stage / gazebo)

I wish this group of software had better support in Ubuntu. Even a PPA. :-(

Sticky: Re: winepulse in ubuntu wine ppa

Curious if this PPA build with winepulse supports 5.1 or 7.1 surround? I haven't seen any indication that it does so I'm curious.

Re: nVidia + OpenGL + SDL = Not working D:

I will be trying at mint forums but due to the nature of the issue and the fact that this relates directly to kernel modules, I definitely think this falls into Ubuntu's territory.

    Mint is just...

Re: nVidia + OpenGL + SDL = Not working D:

Well, years after the OP, I am in the same damn boat. I've scoured the net and found no working solution. Using LinuxMint13 (Ubuntu12.04), And an Nvidia GT 630 with proprietary drivers (295.4)...
  5. Re: continued discussion. ps3mediaserver as a daemon service

This is why I swear by ps3mediaserver. For devices that are limited in what they can do, ps3mediaserver seals the deal. As I mentioned before, it will just "play the freaking file".

    Those of us...
  6. Re: continued discussion. ps3mediaserver as a daemon service

    Good news.

I stumbled on a working solution, verified for 12.04 LTS:
Just install ps3mediaserver with the below commands instead of using any scripts...(if you have an existing install from...
  7. [ubuntu] Re: How clean is upgrading from 10.04 to 12.04?

I guess I'll be biting the bullet, get my backup machine running the essential services, transfer all my needed data to other network shares, and then re-install on the server with 12.04. I've...
  8. [ubuntu] Re: How clean is upgrading from 10.04 to 12.04?

I do have a ton of manually edited config files for various packages.

Another concern I have is some packages I have running that are not tied into APT, they were manually built or installed by...
  9. [ubuntu] How clean is upgrading from 10.04 to 12.04?

Normally, I ALWAYS do clean installs. And planned on doing my server over from scratch with 12.04.

But what if, to save myself from re-doing months of setup, I just do an upgrade using the update...
  10. Re: continued discussion. ps3mediaserver as a daemon service

I dont know. I can transcode anything on the fly. It's called a Xeon. with lots of ram. And it does it with little effort.

I'll let you know when I find something that can't be transcoded by...
  11. Re: continued discussion. ps3mediaserver as a daemon service

Lol you sound like any other Linux geek. No offense intended.

The issue is who wants to do all that. When you can just play the freaking file.

Lol. To each his own. That's the great thing about...
  12. Re: continued discussion. ps3mediaserver as a daemon service

Um. You never needed ps3mediaserver. Any UPNP media server would always have worked.

The issue comes in the supported file types. File types that the ps3 can actually play are very limited.
    ...
  13. Re: continued discussion. ps3mediaserver as a daemon service

Thanks for the info, I've got lot's of memory to spare so anything to make it run smoother. is there a way to allow a bigger video transcode buffer?
  14. Re: continued discussion. ps3mediaserver as a daemon service

    Lol classic.

The init.d script I'm using is semi-complex (from my point of view)... let's see here it is.

the script's name was "ps3mediaserver" it got renamed in my moving things around. check...
  15. Re: continued discussion. ps3mediaserver as a daemon service

out of curiosity what did you use to install it? And you wrote your own upstart script for it!?
    wow. That's dedication. :-)
  16. Re: continued discussion. ps3mediaserver as a daemon service

I installed ps3mediaserver using this script found here by happy necko.

I like install scripts people make, they simplify my program installing life.

I'll bet the init.d script you found on...
  17. Re: continued discussion. ps3mediaserver as a daemon service

I'm using the stock init.d script.

For the cron, I had the cron job point to a script that restarted the service. your way is one less step. I didn't try putting the command directly in cron just...
  18. Re: continued discussion. ps3mediaserver as a daemon service

This is the problem I had. Even if it did start on boot, it just won't run right, without the restart being issued.

(side note, I never tried using the command directly in cron, I'm glad to see...
  19. Re: continued discussion. ps3mediaserver as a daemon service

Yea It never worked for me so I wasn't sure if it was PS3mediaserver itself or if it was something else. Even on my buntu12.04 test box the same rigged fix is needed.

Glad to know that it used to...
  20. [ubuntu] Re: mount -t cifs results gives mount error(13): Permission denied

having this same issue with 12.04 (server) daily builds. (I'm experimenting with it for the future upgrade to 12.04 for my main server)

In /etc/fstab I use this method to mount 2 machines (10.04)...

[ubuntu] Re: Need a good FLOPS benchmark program

Curious, did anyone package any of those utilities into a .deb yet? or is this gonna be the ONE that I learn to compile with/for...? :-)
  22. [ubuntu] Re: atheros gigabit controller stuck at 100 mbps

    bringing-back-the-dead bump.

anyone? does anyone know if 12.04 will have this issue as well?

I guess the thing that puzzles me is, why there is apparently no proprietary driver available.

[SOLVED] Re: where to add startup script

I avoided mentioning the daemon process name because I didn't want this thread to turn into "get logs for that, edit this, check this forum here for this, see the developers site for this..." etc...
  25. continued discussion. ps3mediaserver as a daemon service

I am starting this thread to continue a discussion from this thread in regards to running ps3mediaserver as a daemon service.

EDIT: Ubuntu 12.04/ps3mediaserver still suffers from the...
