  1. [ubuntu] Re: Dual-monitor: Mouse position jumps when moving off-screen

P4man, thanks for the detailed response! The reason I posted the question is that this behavior is different in Win 7, where the same dual-screen set-up does exactly what I want it to (i.e., no mouse...

I have a dual-screen set-up with Ubuntu 10.10. I have an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 video card. I use my lower-resolution laptop screen on the left and a larger monitor on the right. The monitor is...

[SOLVED] No Network Access on 10.04

    Hey guys,

I purchased an Acer Aspire 7745G yesterday and installed Ubuntu as soon as I opened up the computer.

There appears to be a big problem however. Neither the wireless nor the LAN /...

[ubuntu] Re: Freezing Issues, Hardware Problem

Okay, ran some more "Blend" tests in Prime95. The second one failed within three hours.

I then removed one of my RAM chips. With only 1GB of RAM Windows 7 was really slow to work with. It froze...

  12. [ubuntu] Re: Encrypting content with a password only (no keys)

Couldn't you just encrypt a file with a strong hash? No one would know you used a hash, what hash function you used, what salts you added to the original password, etc. You then just need to remember...

    Bump.

  14. [ubuntu] Re: Encrypting content with a password only (no keys)

This is a really interesting approach. I will think a lot about this and try to come up with a good script I would be able to use securely.

The main problem I see with the above is that it can...

[ubuntu] Re: Freezing Issues, Hardware Problem

My computer did not freeze, but I got a single error after 22 hours. I am not sure what to make of it. Current CPU temp is 40 C (so overheating CPU probably not an issue).

  16. [ubuntu] Re: Encrypting content with a password only (no keys)

Well this may be true for typical computer users, but I and probably most (?) current Ubuntu users probably do not use weak passwords with real dictionary words in them. At least I hope!

  17. [ubuntu] Re: Encrypting content with a password only (no keys)

rookcifer everything you said does make sense. I tested my typical password strength using some statistical analysis and it is not as secure as I thought. The passwords themselves would take about...

  22. [ubuntu] Re: Encrypting content with a password only (no keys)
