  1. [ubuntu] Re: iMac G5 not detecting SSD w/ fresh Ubuntu install

I see... However, I only have an Intel Mac around - i'm guessing the partition map is different than that used on the Intel macs so I'm not sure how to best get the disk formatted.

    I see. So you...
  2. [ubuntu] Re: iMac G5 not detecting SSD w/ fresh Ubuntu install

    Hi All,

So... I'm not sure what the issue is. I formatted the SSD w/ OS X Disk Utility on my MacBook Air, and it's recognized as HFS. But... still the Ubuntu Installer doesn't seem to detect it....
  3. [ubuntu] Re: iMac G5 not detecting SSD w/ fresh Ubuntu install

Thanks! You made my morning... I was thinking that I'd have to send the drive back, etc etc, or that maybe my G5 somehow didn't support SSDs. I look forward to working on it this evening! I'm excited...
  4. [ubuntu] Re: iMac G5 not detecting SSD w/ fresh Ubuntu install

Oh is that right? Just for the installer to *detect* a hard drive, that drive must be formatted in HFS?
  5. [ubuntu] Re: iMac G5 not detecting SSD w/ fresh Ubuntu install

But wouldn't the Ubuntu installer let me format the disk?
  6. [ubuntu] iMac G5 not detecting SSD w/ fresh Ubuntu install

Anyone know what the issue might be? I'm trying to install a fresh install of Ubuntu on a "factory fresh" SSD. I installed it in the iMac, but Ubuntu says it can't detect the drive... booting from...

Does that mean I'll have to use Unity 2D instead?
  10. [ubuntu] Trying to get 12.04 working on iMac G5 - White Screen - trying all sorts of things

    Hi All!

Well, I'm trying to get Ubuntu 12.04 up and running on my iMac G5, and I'm not having too much success. So if I just do a default install of 12.04 on my G5, i get the following screen:

    Did these work?
  15. Re: 10.04 Netbook Remix Issue on Gateway LT3103u

    FWIW,

Could this be a GNOME issue? I was having the same issue with the newest version of Linux Mint (based on Ubuntu), but I recently switched to XFCE... and now the issue is gone! Any ideas?
  16. Re: 10.04 Netbook Remix Issue on Gateway LT3103u

doesn't this just revert to older drivers? I have to think there would be a bit of a performance degradation.
  17. Re: 10.04 Netbook Remix Issue on Gateway LT3103u

Up until a couple days ago, I have not been using my netbook much. I was waiting to update it with a special BIOS that will support power management. The BIOS has been updated, and I put a fresh...
  18. [ubuntu] Re: How-to: Getting power management to work on Gateway LT31

Yeah it really is a great little notebook. Seems much speedier than the Atom alternatives. I'm interested in trying out the newest version of Suse linux w/ Meego on it, but for now, i think i'll...
  19. [ubuntu] Re: How-to: Getting power management to work on Gateway LT31

Awesome - i see it moving up from 800mhz to 1.2ghz as needed - very nice. My notebook has become that much more likable now that i've got power management working!
  20. [ubuntu] Re: How-to: Getting power management to work on Gateway LT31

    Alrighty!

I used winphlash - SUCCESS. Thanks so much for attaching the files. The computer restarted without issue. I'm actually going to keep the default Vista partition on there (tiz a SMALL...
  21. [ubuntu] Re: How-to: Getting power management to work on Gateway LT31

Right... there are other options other than the specific method I mentioned, but the short story is that if I flash the BIOS, then I'll just be able to be a happy Ubuntu user and never worry about...
  22. [ubuntu] Re: How-to: Getting power management to work on Gateway LT31

Okay cool. I just downloaded this big zip file. So if I just re-flash my BIOS with the BIOS1 file in your zip package, all will "just work" out of the box, and there will be no need for custom...

[ubuntu] Re: How-to: use custom DSDT in Karmic

Can someone set me straight? I'm a bit confused...
    - What is a DSDT file?
    - With the powernow fix in the most recent version of the kernel, do I still need to do modifications to the BIOS / DSDT...
  24. [ubuntu] Re: How-to: Getting power management to work on Gateway LT31

That would be great. I would love it if you could post the modified BIOS. So if I grab your modified BIOS, flash it to my brother's netbook, and then put a fresh install of Ubuntu on his netbook with...
  25. [ubuntu] Re: How-to: Getting power management to work on Gateway LT31

Is this true?? Will the most recent version of ubuntu w/ the most recent kernel "just work" with this AMD cpu!?
