  3. [other] Re: so my home network is jacked up beyond sensibility. help?

we had two routers daisy chained off the modem for months and it worked fine, but suddenly stopped working. now when we have them daisy chained, the second router works but the first router only...
  4. [other] so my home network is jacked up beyond sensibility. help?

that's the scenario. the middle option has been tried and confirmed on two different routers. we've also daisy chained them which, as expected, failed.

    any ideas?...

oh, nobody wants to help. that's disappointing.
  7. [ubuntu] whatismyip.com can detect that I'm running tinyproxy...?

is there a more covert method or alternative? ssh tunneling does work but I'm a little reluctant to give people ssh access to my server, unless I can figure out how to create a user with no...

[ubuntu] Re: preventing a broken os from booting

oh, I get what you want. someone else should confirm this but I think you could just delete /boot and grub won't find the partition, but you'd still be able to mount it.
  10. Is terminal transparency an X, Awesome or urxvt thing?

I want to be cool like those people on the internet with their transparent terminals. I read this and did the thing it said and made an .Xdefaults file (although if I'm not mistaken that's...
  11. [SOLVED] Re: update-grub seems to see my gentoo install, but dan richter's Grub Customizer doe

buuuuh. turns out the stuff in /etc/grub.d/ is really easy. just edited 40_custom, put the three lines between brackets and preceded that with menuentry "gentoo loonix ololol"

    solved.
  12. [SOLVED] update-grub seems to see my gentoo install, but dan richter's Grub Customizer doesn't

I can boot it manually just fine

    >set root=(hd0,8)
    >linux /boot/gentoo-linux-3.0.6
    >boot
but how do I get the entry to actually appear in my grub menu? the osprober seems to see the gentoo...
  13. [ubuntu] Re: How can I point a domain name at an apache server running on a port other than 80

compiling from source didn't create /etc/apache2 either. lolol. I'm so confused.
  14. [ubuntu] Re: How can I point a domain name at an apache server running on a port other than 80

I'm on oneiric, using the latest version of apache2 from the repositories.

I figured my configuration files were kind of a mess from me screwing around a lot so I decided to uninstall apache2,...
  15. [ubuntu] Re: How can I point a domain name at an apache server running on a port other than 80

that's the problem, bro. my understanding is that it's not just that ports don't matter, it's that the concept of ports does not exist. they're a different level of networking. and since I can't...

[ubuntu] Re: preventing a broken os from booting

if you never ever want to use that broken partition again and have no interest in fixing it, then I would boot into the installation that you want to be in charge of GRUB, run gparted, and delete the...

[ubuntu] Re: How install tar.Gz file

    tar -xzvf package.tar.gz
    cd package

  18. [ubuntu] Re: How can I point a domain name at an apache server running on a port other than 80

my problem is that I can't point my a record at my machine, since there is some other thing using port 80.
  19. [ubuntu] Re: How can I point a domain name at an apache server running on a port other than 80

it's too much money for something I'm just doing for kicks. I guess I should just give up until I can use port 80, or get a cheap vps or something...
  20. [ubuntu] Re: How can I point a domain name at an apache server running on a port other than 80

Would I be able to do something with an SRV record? there's a spot for them at the bottom of the configuration page. mine is
    _http . _tcp 1 1 46464 mydomain.com
    (service.protocol priority weight...
  21. [ubuntu] Re: How can I point a domain name at an apache server running on a port other than 80

like I said, I'm not able to use port 80. mummy dearest has a creepy-*** live stream of our living room and the camera crap uses port 80, so I'm not allowed to. I might try to play around with that...
  22. [ubuntu] Re: How can I point a domain name at an apache server running on a port other than 80

any sort of url forwarding isn't going to help. URL forwarding is essentially what I'm already doing. I tried it with no-ip and I'm getting the same problem. I think what I've gotta do is effectively...
  23. [ubuntu] How can I point a domain name at an apache server running on a port other than 80?

Apache is running on port 46464 and I can see my page when I type my IP: port and everything works fine. I bought a domain name through namecheap and promptly learned that I can only point an A...
  24. [SOLVED] Re: How would port forwarding work if I have two wireless routers?

so I have a bad habit of asking for help as soon as I hit a snag and then figuring out the solution. I routed certain ports from the first router to the second router and from there to my ocmputer. I...
  25. [SOLVED] Re: How would port forwarding work if I have two wireless routers?

okay, so I plugged in the router and messed around for a minute.
