agreed zika, I NEED dist-upgrade sometimes to pull in the new stuff. But I've been doing this long enough to know to watch what gets removed. Like in this case kwin to be removed. RED FLAG!! No kwin...
my current dist-upgrade wants to remove kwin, and I don't see a viable kwin alternate wanting to be installed. So, for now I will just upgrade.

you could use playonlinux, an older version is in the repos, for a newer version use the instructions found here: http://www.playonlinux.com/en/download.html.

yeah, playonlinux is becoming awesome. but i highly recommend you add their repo to your list for the most up to date version.
