I just got a Macbook Pro and installed 9.04, and this would be extremely helpful. I really don't like the whole fn-ctrl layout and any solution would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry to bring up an old topic, but was this issue ever resolved? I'm trying to do the same thing myself, use my ubuntu laptop to control a Mac desktop.
In interactive mode can hit ^l (Ctrl+l) and it will do the exact same thing as clear does in bash.
Ctrl-A : go to line start
Ctrl-E : go to line end
Ctrl-K : clear line from cursor to end...
