    Re: desktop lockup after install

Try installing Ubuntu without the use of the third party proprietary software. Nouveau works much better than the proprietary drivers, especially with the older models.

    Re: desktop lockup after install

Good point, they should be using the same drivers if proprietary drivers aren't selected. I haven't installed Ubuntu in ages ;)

Interesting. Probably a graphics driver issue, but I'm not using Ubuntu/Debian at the moment, so I can't point to a specific issue. If you can spare the bandwidth and time, I'd recommend you try...

[ubuntu] Re: Downloaded Epson printer drivers, Now what do I do with them?

Trash all the .rpm files as Ubuntu does not require them, instead it uses .deb files.

Are you referring to the manditory restart after installation? Can you please describe, "locks up"? Also, what "boot menu that does not operate at all." are you talking about? Is it booting into a...
  9. Re: Installing Audacity and Lame with Ubuntu 9.10

So, you don't have a possible internet connection apart from wireless? With your system specifications, I'd recommend either Lubuntu or Xubuntu on the latest LTS release (that would be 14.04).
  10. Re: Can you recommend an Android music player app?

I second Rocket Player, handles folders quite well, and I love the desktop widgets!

    Re: Kernel panic

So, you're saying even Windows does not boot? This is very odd if this is the case, because if even Windows isn't working on the computer, then it is probably a hardware issue.

[ubuntu] HDMI Audio under Ubuntu 14.04 (Intel)

Newbies? Definetely Mint or Lubuntu. Lightweight? Lubuntu.

Sure, the MATE desktop is not terribly bloated, but just doesn't have the feather touch that I find with LXDE.
