[all variants] Re: Batch convert audio in Video files

    Any ideas? Anyone? ;)

Converting these manually, using avidemux, is a real pain.

I'd also be happy with configuration options for the mythbuntu box that would make the conversions...

[all variants] Re: Batch convert audio in Video files

I just installed it, and you're right, it will create MP3's, if I so desire, but what I am looking to do is create the same XVID AVI with MP3 instead of AC3 audio tracks.

I don't see an option for...

[ubuntu] Re: Server - Move data from NTFS drive

What he said, except I wouldn't generally recommend mounting directly to /mnt.

Instead, do a sudo mkdir /mnt/ntfs and mount to that. The other way won't break your system, but /mnt is a starting...

[SOLVED] Re: How to log into an Ubuntu PC over LAN?

I'd highly recommend using NX. It is a terminal server type of environment, designed to provide independent graphical login sessions to multiple users. It is quite efficient at it's task.
  8. [ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu no longer to read Lacie External H.D

Your screenshot shows that the disk is currently mounted on the LiveCD at /media/disk-2, as an ext3 partition.

What this means is that there is nothing wrong with the disk.

    How about you boot...

    [ubuntu] Re: Install vlc

The problem is that it isn't just one deb. It has several dependencies, and you'd need all of them to be available to get it installed right.

The easiest way is to have each of those machines...
  10. [ubuntu] Re: ssh into my accout elsewhere, copy files to it

The easiest way is to use an SFTP client like FileZilla, but Nautilus can do it as well. Just click Places... Connect to Server... Change the service type to SSH, and enter your information.

    [ubuntu] Re: Install vlc

    Open the terminal and type:

    sudo apt-get install vlc

Enter your user password (it will not echo), hit enter, and answer Y if you are asked if you're sure.

This will pull vlc and all of...

No, it still wouldn't be a flaw. You would be the flaw. Any number of problems can be caused by bad user practices, but they are not system flaws.

[ubuntu] Re: Help with RAID 0 partitioning

    Not exactly.

Most applications are stored in the /usr branch. If you do not have a separate partition for /usr, then yes, it will be a part of /. Some applications will also install in /opt, but...
  16. [ubuntu] Re: boot without a mouse, keyboard or monitor

Once you set /dev/sda4 as extended, you'll start setting the logical partitions.

[ubuntu] Re: Separate file system not allowed here

You can only have 4 primary partitions on a disk. Once you create your first partition, the rest of the disk becomes unusable.

  21. [ubuntu] Re: Activating hardware drivers from terminal
