[ubuntu] Re: 11.10 Gnome Shell doesn't work properly

I think I've narrowed it down that a reinstall of the drivers isn't necessary. It looks like the reinstall is simply calling update-alternatives and fixing a bad link.

    Output when broken:...

[ubuntu] Re: 11.04 long pause during boot process

I've seen this issue on my computer before, particularly with weird HPET delays and random freezes. Other than disabling ACPI, you might want to try either "hpet=disable" or "hpet=force...

[ubuntu] Re: Can't set Chromium to be default browser?

I had the same problem where it didn't seem to stick until I set it in Preferred Applications. I noticed in startup apps that there's some new thing that does a gconf -> dconf conversion. I'm...

    Re: ubuntu-help.com legit site?

Definitely a password stealing site. My "IP has been blocked by an admin" and they want me to send a message by logging in. I've left some interesting usernames and passwords for them. I hate people...

    ubuntu-help.com legit site?

I somehow ended up on ubuntu-help.com instead of ubuntuforums.org at some point. Is it affiliated with ubuntuforums.org as I can't find any links to it anywhere and the whois information is...

[all variants] Re: Guide to Get the Best Performace from the GMA 500

Actually it makes perfect sense. Way back then there was an issue between developers and users. Well here you are as a developer and me as a user. What the developer has now told me is that...

[all variants] Re: Guide to Get the Best Performace from the GMA 500

I got a warning? Seriously? A quick search of all of my posts will show that almost EVERY SINGLE ONE is offering help or a workaround. But when I comment to say that someone who is trying to help out...

[all variants] Re: Guide to Get the Best Performace from the GMA 500

But you have time to build a LiveCD image? I don't have time to read pages of updates per day and then be told to download an image, transfer it to a bootable thumbstick, and then drain battery...

[all variants] Re: Guide to Get the Best Performace from the GMA 500

Used the PPA to install on Lucid UNR on a Dell Mini 12. Using UNR 2D since 3D doesn't work. Had to turn off "Show Desktop" in the GConf settings for Nautilus since the menu was getting overwritten....

    [all variants] XBMC in Lucid

I just started my upgrades to Lucid for my 3 boxes and started with my XBMC box which is an Acer Aspire Revo. I hit a few snags so I figured I'd start a thread for a one stop shop for current XBMC...

[ubuntu] Re: Bad sectors in HDD reported

I find it funny because it's reporting twice as many bad sectors as sectors on the HD! For the record, I just installed Karmic last night which is why I saw this issue. It's a Samsung HD, not...

I just got the same problem. 72 million bad sectors? I don't think so. Looks like a bug.

[ubuntu] Re: Installing on the Dell Mini 12

For those of you with the 2D only freeze, this works for me:

Press the power button or insert/remove a USB device. For some reason that triggers it to "wake up" from its frozen state. I have to...

I know exactly what your problem is: diversions. The problem with some of the packages are they divert the real packages to new ones but never change it back if you uninstall or revert. I had this...

[ubuntu] Re: Installing on the Dell Mini 12

I have tested the new 3D driver for Jaunty. glxgears does run significantly faster although I still don't have true 3d support in Wine and I've read elsewhere that compiz still doesn't function. I...

[ubuntu] Re: Installing on the Dell Mini 12

The module install seems to be missing a step. It messed me up too. Try this:

    sudo /sbin/lrm-manager
    sudo modprobe wl

That should regenerate the module magic for your kernel. You may need...
  19. [ubuntu] Re: Broadcom BCM4312 card not working on Dell Vostro 1520 runninmg Jaunty

This worked for me. Wireless has been sketchy for the last couple days but an ubuntu-mobile update (kernel modules) killed it today. This fixed it. THANKS!!!

[ubuntu] Re: Installing on the Dell Mini 12

Well, I confirmed in lpia that woodhouse's method does work. I had to Pin most of the xserver packages and reboot with the 27 kernel and I had 3d working. Unfortunately, the cpu usage of X was pegged...

[ubuntu] Re: Installing on the Dell Mini 12

There are multiple approaches which is why it's so complicated. The general consensus is:

Intrepid with Ubuntu Mobile PPA (Intrepid): SHOULD...

[ubuntu] Re: Installing on the Dell Mini 12

OK, so adding the ubuntu-mobile PPA and intrepid lines to the sources is easy enough. What packages did you do a "Force Version" on in order to get everything right?
