And thanks to willm and joseph for you input.
Blacklisting the acer-wmi solved it. I assume this can be reported somewhere. How would one go about doing that?

Yeah, I tried that too after looking at a bunch of posts on here with folks with similar problems as mine...I went through a whole slew of rfkill commands to no avail.
I think once I finish...

Ah, nevermind. I found this message:

Editing the rc.local file solved it.
Many thanks, thefasterblueone, for helping with the...
Brilliant. That solved the enabled issue. There's a wee switch on front of the laptop that I never noticed before and must have inadvertently hit. I can now use my wireless card. Thank you.
But,...
This is the output:

It says:

I've a Lenovo V560 that seems to be running 10.10 just fine with the exception of my wireless card.
When I first installed 10.10, by default wireless was not enabled, and at every start up I had...
I just installed 10.10 32-bit on my Lenovo V560. Everything works great except for the wireless, which I have to enable each time the computer starts up.
I have my Wireless network set to connect...
Yeah, it is simple to setup, as long as you are not a moron like me. I had forgotten to reset the cable modem after plugging in and setting up the router. Now everything works.
As far as the...
I don't think I can answer your question, and this is sort of a question that would precede yours, but, can you connect any Ubuntu device to this router (outside of protected mode)? I've tried...
After some extensive Googling, I found a thread on bug.launchpad.net that suggested I enable the maverick-proposed repository and update the glib 2.26 package. I did that, and it seems the problem...
Thanks for the input shawnhcorey, but, alas, still getting the same error message. Basically the gist of the thread you referred to instructed me to install/purge empathy and gcalctool....
So I typed in gcalctool in terminal and got the following:

When I try to launch the Calculator from the Applications menu I get the "Starting Calculator" tab in the bottom panel, but the application never launches and the tab disappears after a few seconds....
Bah, I kinda of suspected as much, but thought it was worth asking about anyway.
Thanks, though.
You can try that. The process is the same: insert live disc, restart the machine and hold down 'c'
What model iBook do you have?
Did you get the hardware test cd that came with your system? Put it in the drive and restart the system, holding down 'c'
Hope that helps.
What is happening exactly? What do you see on your screen (if you see anything at all)?
I just installed 10.10 on my iBook G4, and, for the most part the installation worked flawlessly.
I have noticed, however, that I cannot seem to install Flash Player (though I did install the...
