    Both times the disk was burned at maximum speed, then verified. To satisfy the above suggestion, I got the alternate mirror and burned at the lowest supported speed of my burner, then verified again....

    Before having restarted, I modified the /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf to have the following:


    DEVICE partitions
    HOMEHOST <system>
    MAILADDR root
    ARRAY /dev/md0 level=raid1 num-devices=2 metadata=01.02...
