  1. Re: ubuntu 1804 upgrade messed up 3rd party boot manager

Not familiar with that boot loader.
Not even sure if Boot-Repair will see it. Just run report, obviously do not run any repairs with Boot-Repair as that will install grub.

    May be best to...

    [ubuntu] Re: wiping Windows

Many end up wanting Windows back for one application or game that does not run well in Ubuntu. So we suggest backing Windows up.

[xubuntu] Re: Locked-ESP detected, can't boot Ubuntu

Seen several locked ESP type issues.
Some just need fsck, some need delete & recreate of ESP, and then new UEFI entries.

    Re: ISO to Flash Drive

I only need UEFI, but this does not work for BIOS boot.

If UEFI only, then can just extract ISO with 7-zip to FAT32 formatted drive with boot flag on FAT32 partition.
    Will not boot in BIOS...

    Re: boot-repair

Your Windows UEFI boot entry looks correct as long as you are in UEFI boot mode.
But if Windows needs repairs, you may need to immediately press f8 to get into internal repair console. And if that...
  7. [ubuntu] Re: "System boot order not found" after Ubuntu 18.04 installation

Did you try creating the Windows description boot entry that really boots Ubuntu using shimx64.efi?
  8. Re: No Grub Menu - installed Ubuntu 19.04 after Windows 10

    I use
    GRUB_TIMEOUT=3

If you have it set to 0, then grub menu never shows. And it can be difficult to even use escape key if UEFI or shift key if BIOS to get grub menu as it is not shown.

    My...
  9. [ubuntu] Re: "System boot order not found" after Ubuntu 18.04 installation

    What brand/model tablet?

Are you able to change boot order in UEFI settings? Some systems want that not the efibootmgr change that grub uses to make ubuntu first in boot order.

    A few only want...

    Re: boot-repair

Your manual should tell you key or keys to press to get UEFI boot menu. My Asus z97 uses f8.
If you have UEFI fast boot on, you may not have time to press any key.

Once you press correct key, you...

    Re: invalid arch-independent ELF magic

Not easy to convert. You technically can do conversion to gpt, create new ESP for UEFI boot loader, & totally reinstall grub2's UEFI version.
But often better just to totally reinstall & restore...

    Re: invalid arch-independent ELF magic

I always suggest UEFI with gpt partitioning. A few others in the forum still like BIOS boot. Microsoft has required vendors to install Windows in UEFI boot mode since Windows 8 released in 2012.

  16. [ubuntu] Re: my boot time is slow or normal for my laptop specs?

The Ubuntu standard gnome desktop is considered heavier or needs newer, faster systems to work well.

    Re: invalid arch-independent ELF magic

elf is usually related to booting in wrong boot mode, or install is BIOS and you are booting in UEFI mode or vice-versa.

Is system new enough (since 2012) to be UEFI and that is default boot mode?...

  24. Re: Cannot boot Ubuntu 18.04 LTS partition or Grub bootloader
