I'll be using 12.04 until 14.04 comes out. I find the 6 month releases to be horrible with Bugs. Even the LTS releases have prolems, but they still better than the 6 month.
I don't think you can beat Ubuntu for what you describe.
I don't think Optimus will ever come to Linux. Integrated will get so good & power efficient it won't be needed.
I dumped JAVA while ago. I'm surprised people still use it at all.
I would just get Intel Integrated. Performance has never been better and Linux support is the best.

I can't wait till we no longer have to use Flash for internet. I just can't wait.
It def my fav OS that I've used. But it is difficult to switch from Windows to Ubuntu, especially if you don't know much about computers.
