I have removed ndiswrapper 1.49 and replaced it with 1.47. I don't know whether it'll make a difference... Why should we stick with 47 and not use the newest version?

Why? Because each time I reboot my laptop, WLAN is gone (see thumbnail in the attachment and ifconfig output).

gert, have you tried the following from the instructions in the first post? i think i've read (in another thread here) that in gutsy, "modprobe ndiswrapper" does not load it into the modules folder...you have to manually place it there:

if you get a "permission denied" message, then try:

Exactly. Out of your "reinstall script" the only thing you actually need to run to be working again is:

I am sorry I didn't comment on those things in my first post.
/etc/modules does contain the line ndiswrapper. I executed sudo echo ndiswrapper >> /etc/modules the first time I followed this howto, so /etc/modules was and still is correct. (see below)
About sudo modprobe ndiswrapper. Whenever WLAN stops working after a reboot, I always first check lsmod, to see if ndiswrapper is still in there... And yes, every time it is there. So sudo modprobe ndiswrapper is unfortunately not the answer to my problem ...

But now I found out/realized another thing:
Assuming that I've WLAN working during a certain session. When I reboot graphically, i.e. pressing the "green running man" you can see in my previous attached thumbnail ... ;), WLAN stops working after rebooting. But, if instead of rebooting graphically, I reboot through the commandline (sudo reboot), WLAN works fine after the reboot.
The weirdest thing is this:
WLAN is working
I reboot graphically, WLAN doesn't work.
I don't do anything at all, and now I reboot through commandline (sudo reboot)
Now WLAN works fine...
I don't understand... What's the difference between a graphical reboot and a sudo reboot ??? And why does WLAN starts working again after I do a sudo reboot through commandline?
Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that a graphical shutdown/reboot saves your session-data. And perhaps it is saving it wrongly in my case, and therefore it messes up my WLAN. But what I don't understand is why after sudo reboot it starts working again...
I hope I'm clear explaining all this. In any case, thanks in advance for your help!

So if you boot normally, you wireless card is not recognised at all (the WiFi light doesn't turn on)? But if you run something like "sudo shutdown -r now" (or "sudo reboot") then it works when you come back up? Very strange. Can you boot normally and run then post the output from that command (in code tags please) up here for us to look at. Secondly if you run the following command you should see the corresponding output:

If the module is being added on bootup you should see something similar, if it isn't then this command shouldn't return anything, in which case running "sudo modprobe ndiswrapper" should bring your WiFi up.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that I think you've probably tried to install / use some other wireless method before you got to this how-to. There are a couple of strange things happening here:
First, it looks like you have two wired NICs -- is that true? Both eth1 and eth0 are reporting "Ethernet". I suspect that you don't actually have two wired NICs, but that you've made some other attempt at getting your wireless installed.
Are you only using network-manager to manage your Wi-Fi connections? Are you sure that other programs such as wifi-radar aren't also trying to use the wireless NIC's resources?
Take a look at the programs that are stored as part of your default session. If there's anything in there about wireless or networks, let us know.

I also realized that when booting, the Wifi-led burns, even though WLAN doesn't work at that moment. During my reinstall script, it turns off at a certain moment, and then comes back on.

No, I haven't. I cleanly installed Gutsy, using the restricted drivers. Last week I installed ndiswrapper according to this howto and removed the restricted drivers. I do have been working with wpa_supplicant and dhclient before trying this howto.

I don't have to wired NICs. I don't know why they both report Ethernet. What should the wifi-card be reporting? Last week I followed some instructions from this thread in an attempt to use vpn. It worked. The only thing I had to do was change the names of eth0 and eth1 in this file:

In the attached thumbnails I made a screen shot of my Session configuration. The only thing (slightly) related to WLAN besides NetworkManager is BlueTooth manager. I don't have bluetooth in my laptop, I only have a bluetooth-usb-stick.

I marked some lines in bold in this dmesg. It shows that ndiswrapper is not able to initialize eth0, but I don't understand why. Perhaps someone else does understand what dmesg is saying?
And I still don't understand why after a sudo reboot/sudo shutdown -r now, ndiswrapper can initialize eth0, but after a normal reboot is cannot...

Bingo. To my knowledge, ndiswrapper tries to set wlan0 (the normal device name for wireless) to eth1. If eth1 is already taken by some other resource, you'll have problems. This would also explain why wireless works again after your run your reinstall script. Think of it as a battle for eth1 assignment: eth1 gets assigned to wifi first, then your other script sets eth0 (ethernet) to eth1, which drops your wifi. Then you run your reinstall script, and ndiswrapper probably detects that eth1 is in use, and assigns eth0 instead. Wifi and VPN are both competing for eth1, and since the VPN script is run after the initial wifi config, VPN wins and wifi loses.

Why? I've put the bcm driver in a blacklist, haven't I ?
No, that's a good message. Ndiswrapper is successfully loading the windows drivers. All good.

Nothing, bcmwl5 is a different driver from bcm43xx. bcm43xx is the restricted driver that Ubuntu will keep trying to install over ndiswrapper and bcmwl5 unless you specifically blacklist it. bcmwl5 is the official Broadcom Windows driver that ndiswrapper lets you use in Linux.
