I don't really know whether it makes much of a difference performance wise (it probably does). I use Openbox not just because it is light-weight, but particularly but it is very customizable, much more so than Xfce's window manager.

Interesting. I'm not sure in what way it's more customizable but thanks for the info :)

I'm not sure you can do this in openbox but I could be mistaken...

of course, why would you want to? :D

I'm not talking about the visual aspect, but rather its behaviour. In Openbox I can, for example, control every aspect of my window management (and desktop) with keybindings. Openbox gives you a lot more control than xfwin (see this page).
That said, I also really like Openbox' aesthetics, and find it a lot more pleasant to theme than other window managers (it all happens in a single text file, with a very simple syntax).

ahhh. thanks for the explanation. it also explains why I wasn't aware of the difference because I hate using the keyboard. :)

Indeed!
Saint Jerome was one the greatest men of all times!
Gotta admit -- never considered using him as a wallpaper, but...
It's a sign_of_the_times, I suppose... ;)
