Yes, I know. However, it causes DRI2 to break on my particular system (Dell Inspiron 510m, 855GM graphics), even though tiling has never caused problems before. I decided to keep this guide somewhat conservative in order to minimize problems for users.

I kept the default Jaunty installation with UXA and false tiling in Xorg. The system is quite good, the only thing I found very bad is flash on web (ie. Youtube), the CPU goes to 100% :-(
I've tried the vanilla kernel 2.6.30rc2 and no problem at all for the performances (flash too); just my old notebook do fan spins all the time :-)
As usual I found the kernel here:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa...e/v2.6.30-rc2/
PS. I discovered now also this one:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa...e/v2.6.30-rc3/
Did not tried yet.
Re: HOWTO: Jaunty Intel Graphics Performance Guide
any chance for a lpia build?
I don't have i386 here...
Re: HOWTO: Jaunty Intel Graphics Performance Guide
Good news (at least for me) :P
I've applied a silly trick to xorg.conf and now also flash is working properly :KS

Yes. Putting the forgotten and deprecated option of VideoRam (in my case 64MB) in xorg.conf fixed everything here.

So this is a standard install of Jaunty (stock kernel) and updates with only the xorg changes listed for UXA / 64MB?

Yes, correct.
Btw, as I post before in this thread my only big, big issue was only on flash video on the web.
Now VideoRam fix this too.

Great! I've got a lot of testing to do this comming week. I've got my ATI carded lappy working -okay- :-s
Now with all the information in this thread, I hope to get my Intel X3100 working well.

Re: HOWTO: Jaunty Intel Graphics Performance Guide
I tested the 2.6.30-rc3 kernel and performance is slightly worse than rc2 - therefore I won't change the original instructions in the guide.
P.S. I'll request this thread to be moved as soon as Jaunty is released and this forum archived.

Here's what happens for me:
Code:
(WW) intel(0): VideoRam configuration found, which is no longer recommended.
(II) intel(0): Continuing with default 131072kB VideoRam instead of 65536 kB.
I suspect that something else fixed the issue for you, as your output indicates that you filtered only for warnings (WW), whereas the override is mentioned as information (II).
Our graphics device is the same:
Code:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device (rev 02)
