@vangelas: how is zeitgeist-fts-extension going to do what I want? I want something like synapse/gnome-do integrated with the search capability of the activities window. So it should index all my files. The only thing I can find on the "well documented" zeitgeist extensions is something about indexing files accessed in history. Now running 12.04 btw, but not able to change/remove since policy change.

Would also love to hear more about this. I'm quite surprised that there's so little coverage on the subject of file search directly in Gnome shell. I've also installed synapse and it seems a bit clunky when everything else is done so well and so nicely integrated.
