Can not start Thunderbird after UBUNTU update
Problem solved
I aim new to Ubuntu coming from Fedora 14-LXDE.
I tried first Lubuntu 11.10 and now I have peppermint two on my acer aspire one L110 Z5; 512MBRAM; 8GB SSD; yesterday under peppermint I upgraded the base OS, which was LUBUNTU 11.04 to 11.10 With LUBUNTU 11.04 Thunderbird worked well.
However, with LUBUNTU 11.10 either as OS or under peppermint environment it stopped working.
After booting in both cases I got, when trying to start Thunderbird, the following error message:
Quote:
Thunderbird is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Thunderbird process, or restart your system.
When running thunderbird in a terminal I get the same message no other error message
I ran the task manager: upon calling thunderbird I see thunderbird-bin active but when I acknowledge the error message thunderbird-bin disappears.
Re: Can not start Thunderbird after UBUNTU update
I had a similar issue when I setup incorrect details for my email server. Thunderbird would "hang" for a good few minutes trying to connect to the email server until it finally failed and I could then use the UI.
Could this have happened?

No doobrie, since I hadn't even the chance to setup Thundebird. After the update from 11.04 to 11.10 Thunderbird never started.
Re: Can not start Thunderbird after UBUNTU update
There is a Thunderbird forum which helped me with an obscure problem:

Re: Can not start Thunderbird after UBUNTU update
I just got an email that Thunderbird 10 is released:

If its a bug it might have been fixed.
Re: Can not start Thunderbird after UBUNTU update
I reinstalled Lubuntu 11.10 and refreshed the Thunderbird files in my user folder. Now it works. So, Problem solved
