Supported 35mm Slide Scanner

Hi all! Is there anyone that can recommend a setup for scanning 35mm slides to digital format? I've been researching this a bit and everything I come up with ends with SANE either not supporting the hardware or just barely supporting it.

Installing a VBox of Windows is an option, however I think I would just spend the cash and buy a MAC for this. -- I HATE Windows.

Any one have experience with this?

I have an ubundance (yes, that is a play on words ;) ) of Ubuntu versions installed on various machines including; 8.04, 9.10, 10.04, 10.10.
