Alsa output connector keeps reverting to Headphone

The title pretty much says it all. Since the upgrade from 11.10 to 12.04, the Alsa sound connector keeps reverting to Headphone. When I change it to Speakers, everything works OK, until the next reboot, when I have to change it back again.

Is there a setting somewhere I can adjust to fix this?

Oh yeah h/w is Asus G1s, not what is listed below.
