Ubuntu 8.04 instalation experience
Tired of Microsoft, I decided to give Linux a try. As so I'm a complete newbie to Linux.
I installed Ubuntu 8.04 on my Compaq laptop from inside Windows. Everything ran smoothly until I had to configure my Broadcom BCM93411 wireless driver. I searched for help on the web, but had no success doing so. All tricks failed, one after the other...
Finally I uninstalled 8.04 and made a new install, but this time with a network cable connected to my wireless router.
Success!!!! Instalation was smooth, the only thing I had to do was to enable the Broadcom restricted driver, then Ubuntu automatically downloaded the wireless card firmware. After that, I provided my WEP key, and everything was up and running in a couple of minutes!!! So simple, but I don't remember to have seen this tip anywhere else...
