Broadcom BCM4318 driver install failed.
I have a generic desktop which runs 12.04. It has a wireless card that used to work on 10.10. I tried to use "system settings" -> "additional driver" to install the driver after a fresh 12.04 install. It failed (kernel trap, unfortunately didn't record the trace). Rebooted and tried to follow the suggestions from other thread to reinstall from command line. The reinstall process hangs. Install and gdb trace below. Thanks in advance for help.

Re: Broadcom BCM4318 driver install failed.
Hi, copy and paste this command in the terminal (ctrl+alt+t) please:
Code:
wget -N -t 5 -T 10 http://dl.dropbox.com/u/57264241/wireless_script && chmod +x wireless_script && ./wireless_script
It will download a script and create a text file in your home folder with wireless information so we can see the condition of your wireless at this time and the Mac address, WPA key and WEP key are removed for your security, then reply back, click on the paper clip and attach the netinfo.txt file.
Thanks

Re: Broadcom BCM4318 driver install failed.
Hi, try this..
Code:
sudo apt-get remove --purge bcmwl-kernel-source
sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter firmware-b43-installer
sudo modprobe b43
thanks.
Re: Broadcom BCM4318 driver install failed.
I see Hadaka beat me to it.:P
Re: Broadcom BCM4318 driver install failed.
Thanks a lot for help. I somehow didn't work for me.
"sudo modprobe b43" hangs
gdb the pid appears to be hang too (can't get to gdb prompt).
What else should I try?
Re: Broadcom BCM4318 driver install failed.
Even though the installation appeared to be hung, it seemed to have done the job. I rebooted the PC and the wireless card is working just fine. Thank you so much for help.
Could you explain what the difference is between the bcmwl-kernel-source and b43-fwcutter firmware-b43-installer? I really appreciate it!
Re: Broadcom BCM4318 driver install failed.
Hi, glad that worked for you. The difference between
the bcmwl and the b43 diver is the driver codeing that
controls the wifi card and is dependant on the type of
chip and other circuits on the card. Your card Broadcom 4318
[14e4:4318] requires the b43 driver. Please use thread tools to mark this
thread solved.
thanks.
Re: Broadcom BCM4318 driver install failed.
Thanks again! Could you let me know how to mark it "resolved"? Under my thread tools, I have 3 options: show printable version, email this page, subscribe to this thread.
Re: Broadcom BCM4318 driver install failed.
Hi, i think i heard it was not working correctly
so temp method is to sign back in..your thread
then edit the title and insert [SOLVED]
thanks.
