Which Windows for gaming on System76 Bonobo laptop?
At the risk of committing blasphemy, I ask this forum for its advice regarding windows gaming on a system 76 laptop. Presently, I am using Windows 7 on a Mac to play Star Trek Online and the new SimCity game. I also occasionally use it to play Windows only Steam games. It seems that I have maxed out the license for my Windows 7 CD. However, it is becoming increasingly difficult to find a new one online. Most retailers are pushing me to purchase windows 8, about which I have heard bad things. What would you do in this situation?

Hi!
If you maxed out your Windows license, you will either need to free one of your license or buy a new one. You can consider this:
Freeing a license does not apply to an OEM license. An OEM license is tied to to machine or the peripheral along which it was provided. (When you buy a new computer with a Windows OEM license, you get it at a discounted price; the deal is you cannot transfer or reuse the license on another computer.) So freeing a license can only be done with a retail version of Windows. If you only have OEM license(s), then you know you cannot go that way: you will have to buy new a retail license.
To free a retail license, you only need to reformat a Windows installation from one of the computer. (You might have to call Microsoft and explain what happened to complete the activation.) Activating it on the second computer will automatically deactivate the license for the first computer. So going that way means you will have to remove Windows from one of your other computer. If you need to keep Windows in all your other computers, then you will need to buy a new license.
Windows 7 can still be found in some stores, both online stores and your local computer shop. Microsoft itself doesn't seem to sell Windows 7 anymore on its online store.

Feel free, but do it here as your question is basically about Windows. . ;)
Re: Which Windows for gaming on System76 Bonobo laptop?
I have installed Windows 8, and so far have had no problems using it. Mine is the base config. I have tried playing Hitman: Absolution, Assassin's Creed III, L.A. Noire, Spec-Ops and a few other games and all have run fine. No problems using any of the devices except for the webcam - but I only noticed today that there's a function key to turn on the webcam, so that might have caused the problem. Everything else works just fine. The bad things you hear are about the Metro/Modern UI, which you can ignore most of the time. The only time I use the Metro UI is to click on Desktop at the Start screen each time I log on. :)
