GUI Syspend actually hibernates

I've had an issue for quite awhile that still persists in my upgrade to 12.10. If I suspend my PC from the terminal, it works properly. However, if I Suspend by clicking on it in the upper right of the GUI, it actually hibernates (which is no longer even an option since 12.04). I have been upgrading since maybe hardy, so it is quite possible that my GUI Suspend option got remapped or something along the way. I do not know really anything on the internal config files etc of the Ubuntu OS so any fix/advice would be much appreciated.
