HowTo: Fix Firefox Flash Sound Issues
Sometimes flash just doesn't produce sound, or you can find flash will "give up" playing sound after a given period. Use this fix to stop that.
Easy as pie. :)
Open terminal, and enter:
Code:
sudo aptitude install alsa-oss
Wait for the install to complete, before typing:
Code:
gksudo gedit /etc/firefox/firefoxrc
A file will open, and in the file you will see:
Quote:
FIREFOX_DSP=”none”
Change this to:
Quote:
FIREFOX_DSP=”aoss”
Hope this helps you all. :)
Update: I have been notified that this also works on Firefox clones/forks such as "Flock" :)

Re: HowTo: Fix Firefox Flash Sound Issues
This is indeed the fix. Sound will still be slightly out of sync (most notable in streaming video after the initial 20 seconds or so...off by about 1/2 a second) but that, as far as I know, is out of our hands.

Re: HowTo: Fix Firefox Flash Sound Issues
Thanks for the fix but I'm not sure that this isn't just a band-aid. Prior to the updates on Sept 19 I didn't have out of sync issues nor was flash an issue. I installed the updates and flash no longer produced sound. I used the fix documented above and tried both "aoss" and "alsa" and both produce the same out of sync issues with "alsa" being less of out of sync.
