12.04 printer driver Canon iP2000
Until one of the recent updates my printer worked with the standard driver, though slower than with previous ubuntu releases. It now prints most of a page then hangs, eventually releasing the incomplete page. Are there better alternatives to the standard driver or anything else I could try?

Have you tried the canon website to see if they have an updated driver?

offgridguy: Thanks for the suggestion. Canon US says nothing available for linux.

Had a look at the list of supported Canon printers on ubuntu (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupp...sPrintersCanon)
the iP2000 is mentioned, but test results are 5-7 years outdated. If you want a printer on ubuntu I suggest an HP printer as hplip (http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/index.html) is constantly being updated and supports most printers.
I had a Canon printer working on ubuntu until I updated from 10.04. Since then I've got an HP one which isn't working yet, but I haven't spent long trying to fix it.
Good luck!

You may want to try the following link. It does not mention the ip 2000 but it does have drivers for the ip 1900 and ip 2200. One of them might work for you.

Tried to proceed anyway but when trying to update I get error message
"W: failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/michael-gru...-i386/Packages 404 Not Found"
and, of course, it was not possible to install the cnijfilter.
I need help to understand what failed and what to do about it. Thank you.
