Re: HOWTO: PulseAudio Fixes & System-Wide Equalizer Support
hi there
i need some help
et:qw is an OSS game, but i would need to run it with alsa/pulseaudio, so i start it with: "aoss ./etqw"
it registers correctly in pavucontrol, and i see sound playing back, so far so good, but as soon as i want to use the built-in VOIP system ETQW crashes with segmentation fault.
infos you need:
1. Intrepid with custom 2.6.28 kernel (problem persists with generic ubuntu kernel, so its not a kernel issue)
2. A listing of your sound devices:
Code:
thomas@box:/usr/local/games/etqw$ aplay -l
**** Liste von PLAYBACK Geräten ****
Karte 0: Dummy [Dummy], Gerät 0: Dummy PCM [Dummy PCM]
Untergeordnete Geräte: 8/8
Untergeordnetes Gerät '0: subdevice #0

Karte 2: HDMI [HDA ATI HDMI], Gerät 3: ATI HDMI [ATI HDMI]

3. The verbose output from pulseaudio on your system:

4. Result = A since only Input gives me Problems.
Voice Input works in Mumble, Skype, etc! Using the volume meter in the PulseAudio Device Chooser for my MIC gives positive feedback too.
I just realised i should try padsp instead of aoss, oh well the problem persists!

The application does not play audio and does list an entry in the Playback tab;
- the application is using PulseAudio but there is a problem, such as: a bug in PulseAudio, a problem with your ALSA kernel module or libraries, or your PCM/Master volume is muted.
I'm wondering if my lack of success is due to a previous "fix" I tried to apply.

I notice that during the update some files where being pulled from lgp203.free.fr (I don't know if this is the issue but I thought I'd mention it.)
Let see..
I'm pretty sure nothing is muted...

Re: HOWTO: PulseAudio Fixes & System-Wide Equalizer Support
Hi. Oh boy, this is a long thread! I've read the first five pages and done all the steps in Appendix A - should I read the whole thread before asking for help?
Anyway, here is the information you asked for, psyke83.
After not being able to get any sound in any application, I have followed your tutorial exactly, and I still have no sound whatsoever. The result of the test in Appendix A was:
D. The application does not play audio and does not list an entry in the Playback tab;
- the application is trying either to access your sound card directly or to play sound via ALSA's dmix device, but the sound card is already in use. This is the opposite case to result B, which will also cause mixing errors.
Here is the information you request for troubleshooting:
1. My distribution and architecture are (I think) Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex, i386. Here's the info on the System Monitor:
Computer Name: musicmaker
Ubuntu Release 8.10 (intrepid)
Kernel Linux 2.6.27-9-generic
GNOME 2.24.1
Hardware
Memory 1.9 GiB
Processor 0 AMD Athlon 64X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+
Processor 1 AMD Athlon 64X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+
I have upgraded the Ubuntu to be Ubuntu Studio, using the repos. When I did this earlier (on another computer) with Gutsy, a whole boatload of programs were added to the Applications Menu. This time, however, it only added one or two programs, and I don't know why.
The title "Ubuntu Studio" doesn't show on the System Monitor info, but it does show on the splash screen when booting up. This is a new system, but with an extra sound card added to it - one that was working well in an older system, for recording. Maybe the problem is having two soundcards, though in the other system it caused no problem (admittedly in Windows98).
2. Here is a listing of the sound devices:
billkath@musicmaker:~$ aplay -l

This stayed like this for several hours (I went away and came back) - never coming back to the prompt - which I've never seen happen before. When I selected the text to save it, there were two sections that showed up highlighted in red - "failed to create sink object" (and a bunch more text) and the other section starts "failed to create source object", etc. (The word "privilege is mis-spelled all through the terminal output.)
So, that's it. Thanks for any help in advance.
Cheers,
Kath Worsfold
Re: HOWTO: PulseAudio Fixes & System-Wide Equalizer Support
After reading some other threads, I see that PulseAudio is incompatible with Ubuntu Studio, and with JACK. I will definitely be using those - so, I guess I will have to remove it and put something else in its place. I'll have to search the threads to see what to do.
If anyone else on this thread has had to do this, and you use JACK etc. I would love to hear what you have done to get everything going.
Cheers,
Kath

md5sum mismatch install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz
The Flash plugin is NOT installed.
So I guess your .deb needs an md5 sum updated. Or simply kill that silly test.

2. Pulseaudio is not working at all.
3. The system-wide equalizer seems to have caused some problems (as it stopped pulseaudio from working) and I disabled those steps and pulseaudio now works fine, however, I am using a laptop and would like to use the system-wide equalizer.
4. Also I had originally removed pulseaudio by uninstalling the pulseaudio package, and installing esound. In addition I had removed:
Code:
/etc/X11/Xsession.d/70pulseaudio
however, I found that my sound quality was poor and I was hearing muffled sound, especially from my mp3's. Therefore, I decided to follow your guide to re-install pulseaudio. Could this be causing major issues?
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Re: HOWTO: PulseAudio Fixes & System-Wide Equalizer Support
Hey anyone out there having difficulty trying to get Pulseaudio working with a hardware playback device that uses ICE1712 (as displayed when you run the command "aplay -l", there is a bug I have found which seems to affect all cards using this chipset.
For example my card is card 0: H71 [Hoontech STA DSP24 Media 7.1], device 0: ICE1712 multi [ICE1712 multi] but according to this bug other cards such as M-Audio type cards are affected too.
There is a manual workaround listed in this bug.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...io/+bug/178442
There is a posting about an M-Audio Delta 44 card...
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...442/comments/8
I have found that this workaround works for my card too.
If it helps people I have included the steps I made to get my ICE1712 type card working in pulseaudio.
In my example you will need to replace the "H71" with whatever the device says when you run By editing this file,
Code:
gksudo gedit /etc/pulse/default.pa
and adding the following lines at the end, I now have a working pulseaudio in 8.10 64 bit.
Code:
# Workaround for MAudio Audiophile
# https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/178442/comments/7
# Added comment rod40cool - (STA Audio Media 7.1 card uses same ICE1712 driver)
# Added comment rod40cool - Run command "asoundconf list" to determine what to add after "device=hw:????"
# Added comment rod40cool - Make sure after pasting that there are only 2 lines below starting each with "load-module module..."
load-module module-alsa-sink sink_name=H71_out device=hw:H71 format=s32le channels=10 channel_map=left,right,aux0,aux1,aux2,aux3,aux4,aux5,aux6,aux7
load-module module-alsa-source source_name=H71_in device=hw:H71 format=s32le channels=12 channel_map=left,right,aux0,aux1,aux2,aux3,aux4,aux5,aux6,aux7,aux8,aux9
I hope this helps someone who is trying to get pulseaudio running for a ST Audio Media 7.1 or M-Audio Delta card or in fact any card that uses the ICE1712 driver.
Cheers
Re: HOWTO: PulseAudio Fixes & System-Wide Equalizer Support
My audio works perfectly fine in Ubuntu, but no matter what I do in Xubuntu, I can not get it to work!
Code:
$ aplay -l
