Ubuntu Server cannot see Internet but can see machines on local network
UPDATE:
Fresh installation Ubuntu 12.04 solved the issue
************************************************** ***
Hi all,
I thought of upgrading my Ubuntu server to latest release (it is used as a backup / movie server only, so no GUI on it, command line only) and today I realise (after 2 years running it) that it will not see/ping any external addresses beyond the Gateway (192.160.0.1). I have edited etc/resolv.conf
Code:
nameserver 192.168.0.1
nameserver 61.9.195.193
nameserver 61.9.207.1
When I ping (say Yahoo.com) I get no replies (it just hangs, although the IP is resolved - 206.190.36.45). When I ping same site from one of the Win PCs it replies OK (so firewall/router/modem not stopping ping).
ifconfig is as follows:
Code:
bond0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:1b:fc:6a:c2:79

Can anybody help me understand why the network is working OK peer to peer but the server cannot reach outside?
There is only one firewall in the place and that is on my DLink router.
Thanks in advance!
Re: Ubuntu Server cannot see Internet but can see machines on local network
Hi,
what kind of hardware is in use? Please show:
Code:
uname -a
lspci -nnk | grep -iA2 net
lsmod
cat /etc/network/interfaces
dmesg | egrep 'eth0|eth1'
cat /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules
route -n

Re: Ubuntu Server cannot see Internet but can see machines on local network
What about the eth1 config?
Re: Ubuntu Server cannot see Internet but can see machines on local network
Sorry praseodym, I do not understand the question.
Are you referring to "eth1:link down" above? The last message on eth1 is "link status definitely up" on the bond0 statement.
Sorry, but I am not an experienced Linux person, but learning fast!
By the way, I have another thread going for an issue where the server has poor performance and timeouts on RAID6 array. I am sure these two issues are not related, but just in case! http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2152585
Thanks!

Re: Ubuntu Server cannot see Internet but can see machines on local network
Are the following packages installed?
Code:
sudo apt-get install ifenslave-2.6 net-tools ethtool bmon
Please show:
Code:
sudo mii-tools
modprobe --list | grep -i bonding
find /lib/modules/`uname -r` -iname bonding*
Please google-translate the following page:
http://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/Netzwerkk...ighlight=bond0
You can find config examples there in the grey boxes. Obviously, the eth0 config is not necessary.
