Xubuntu screen enlargement for visually impaired
I've installed 32-bit Xubuntu Xenial Xerus on my visually impaired mother's MacBook Pro. She's finding the toolbar and desktop text and icons inconveniently small. I know how to zoom in inside applications, but how can I enlarge the toolbars and desktop icons? I know Orca is a Linux program meant to make this easier but I think that won't run on Xubuntu...Any advice greatly appreciated.
Re: Xubuntu screen enlargement for visually impaired
Xubuntu has a zoom-all feature. Hold the ALT key down, and use the mouse wheel: forward to zoom in, back to zook out again. This increases the size of everything - icons, panels, toolbars, text, and so on. Move the mouse around to view. Moving cursor to extreme left puts you on the left edge of the zoomed screen, and moving the cursor to the extreme right puts you at the right edge of the zoomed screen. Similar for top to bottom.
Re: Xubuntu screen enlargement for visually impaired
Thanks! Sorry, ignorant question: I have a laptop, not a desktop, and don't have a separate mouse... I've tried holding ALT down and scrolling this way and that way with no effect--what is the right approach on a laptop?
Re: Xubuntu screen enlargement for visually impaired
It works on my Dell laptop with the touchpad - hold ALT down, and I can scroll with the touchpad to zoom. Also works with the mouse wheel. So it must depend on your machine. For you, may only work with the mouse?
Re: Xubuntu screen enlargement for visually impaired
Panel > Preferences > "Row Size".
Right-click the desktop > Desktop Settings > Icons tab ?
