Laptop & Desktop ... Capatilist! :lolflag: :lolflag:
Seriously: Wish I had those. :)
Please tell me where you got your Desktop image?
And if you can't remember I would not be against you sending me your desktop computer. Provided you paid shipping & handling and import/export taxes too!
lol I'm not sure where I got that Image from but I will upload it here for you to download. the one I uploaded it the original the one I'm using I reversed it so my conky showed up better.
As for the laptop and desktop. My desktop is my work PC and the Laptop is personal. :-P
Hi Bruce and all -
Ok. I have made .startconky executable and upon running I get the following:
aonegodman@aonegodman-desktop:~$ sudo chmod a+x ~/.startconky
[sudo] password for aonegodman:
aonegodman@aonegodman-desktop:~$ ./.startconky
Conky: can't load font 'arial'
Conky: desktop window (e000b5) is subwindow of root window (c1)
Conky: window type - override
Conky: drawing to created window (2e00003)
Conky: drawing to double buffer
(cursor blinking in CLI)
So now - conky is running in upper-right corner of my desktop. Woopie!
BUT! if I close CLI then conky shuts down also.
Next -
I had that before I went back in to create the 7 step file process to get weather on my desktop also. But the other scripts are NOT executing - No weather here. :(
Bruce - ok now you see that my weather ID USTN0132 is correct, I'm still where I was.
I resent the following and now get the same text file back that you got:
wget "http://xoap.weather.com/weather/local/USTN0132?cc=*&unit=$f"

Is this "alertid=429713" the weather ID that should be placed in my conkyweather script at this location:
${color white}${execi 60 ~/scripts/weather.sh 37321}$color :???:
Further clarifications please - - - -
I have d/l the curl requirement and installed it under /usr/bin - checked ok.
I'm questioning the placement of the other required file you indicated - XSML?
I checked for it in files and find a folder named "xsmlproc". Is this it, or do I need reinstall that?
Man I apologize to you and others for my thick head, but this is a real learning process for this non-programmer here. But I've come too far to turn back now. :)
{sigh} guess that means you won't be shipping the PC. :(
BUT: Thank you kindly for the image. I do the same, reverse them at times, and for the same type of reasons. Two for conky now, this will be 3 :)
I'm retired, so my Laptop is my wife :)
DO NOT tell her I said that! :lolflag:
Hi aonegodman
Comment out the line that calls the 'arial' font with a # at the beginning.
Then in Terminal:
andCode:killall conky
Code:./.startconky
I'm checking this.
Tell me what files you have in:
/.conkyscripts
and
~/scripts
You should have
~/.conkyscripts
conkymain
conkyweather
~/scripts
weather.sh
weather.xslt
Forget about that. It leads to an error page (I checked earlier. :)
is what you want to use.Code:${color white}${execi 60 ~/scripts/weather.sh USTN132}$color
Perfect, I didn't put that in my HowTo because it was adding a second conky. I should though, and will.
XSML? I didn't mention that and don't have one :)
weather.xslt - it "needs" to be in the same folder as your weather.sh file.
Do nothing with it. :) Just leave that there.
No, no, no, no, not necessary. If you go back to about paige 114 (I think) you see how I started here. Christmas Eve, Day and the 26th I kept a lot of people busy. I drove some people mad I'm sure.
Now I'm just giving back what they all taught me. I too am a non-programmer, and I refused to quit too. :)
By the way, in a NEW post here put up your conkymain and conky weather files so we can see them.
Hang in there, we'll get this working.
Bruce
Found this line in my weather.sh file:
STEP
# you probably don't need to modify anything below this point....
# CURL url. Use cc=* for current forecast or dayf=10 to get a multi-day forecast
CURLURL="http://xoap.weather.com/weather/local/$LOCID?dayf=10&unit=$UNITS&cc=*"
Do I need to do something here? :)
set it to run at start up in system>preferences>sessions
